2020 Palmer Scholarship
Following his 1960 U.S. Open victory at Cherry Hills, a special relationship developed between Mr. Palmer, Cherry Hills Country Club and its Members.
Originally conceived by a small Member group who engaged the support of Mr. Palmer, the Arnold Palmer Scholarship Fund was created in 2001 to provide Cherry Hills Country Club employees and golf caddies with financial assistance for a range of educational pursuits.
Applicants are evaluated by the Foundation's Board that includes Club Members and representatives of the Club's staff. Considerations for scholarship awards include:
- Character recommendations
- Letters of recommendation (Members and staff)
- Academic Achievements
- Longevity of service to Cherry Hills Country Club
- Performance on standardized tests
- Personal interview (motivation, ability, character and potential)
- Financial need
MEMBER FUNDED: Cherry Hills Members support the program by making donations and through fund raising activities associated with the annual Palmer Cup Golf Tournament and Auction. Funds were also raised through the collegiate Palmer Cup tournament hosted by the Club in 2009.
Donations to date from 2001 are $1.81MM with $1,413,582 awarded to 1,005 scholarship recipients. The average award for 2019 was approximately $2,000.
"The most rewarding things in life are often the ones that look like they cannot be done." Arnold Palmer
